C’MON

How many of these articles do we have to write? The New York State legislative session ends on June 16. At the time of this post, there are NINE days left in the session. After that date, that’s it til next year, people. Even from Assemblyman Sean Ryan, who sponsored the damn bill to make ride sharing legal, staffers told us that once the budget was complete, all other matters would be voted on, including this previously tabled measure.  The budget passed April 1. Well, what have you guys been up to over there in Albany?

With their inability to pass any measures to clean up their own corruption, one might think that this would be a perfect opportunity for state lawmakers to pass a measure that would garner some good will, no?

Instead, the taxi companies are winning! You know, those guys who steal your money by keeping their meter off, going the wrong way, not taking your credit card, not having change, letting their weird friend in the front seat ride along, etc etc etc. They’re winning because we’re sitting on our couches complaining to our friends about how ridiculous it is that Buffalo is the largest city, the only NFL city without Uber, but not actually contacting our state representatives about it. You know who’s harassing them? Liberty Yellow Cab. If the only place in the entire city that sold groceries consistently ripped people off, refused service to countless others, put everyone in the store’s lives at risk, and sold rotten food, wouldn’t you want the law passed that allowed a Trader Joe’s to move into town and give people a choice to actually have something better? Wouldn’t you harass your representatives to pass it?

WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY WAITING FOR?

People are driving drunk instead of dealing with the terrible taxis in this town. That is a real problem that stretches beyond inconvenience to residents and off-putting the city’s visitors. Close the bars at 2AM or 4AM, there will be just as many drunks on the road. Pass A.6090 and S.4280 and you lower that number immediately. This isn’t about hoping they do something. It’s about making them do something.
