It’s Blog Party time! Welcome back to our favorite tradition.
MUSIC. INSTAGRAMS. BREAD.
We were searching for the most interesting, cool, weird, and beautiful Instagrams across the region and got hooked on a black and white theme.
For next week, you’ve got until the end of Labor Day to take the most fun photo you can with the hashtag #FFsilhouette. Check it out on IG now and see some of the great submissions thus far. For stories behind some of this week’s roundup, head over to The Public. This week, feast your ears on the musical bounty baked up by the folks at @breadhive. Here’s Allison at Breadhive:

We’re a small bakery that uses a hybrid of old, traditional and new breadmaking technique to bring Buffalo artisan bread, bagels and pretzels that we are proud of. When we opened a year and a half ago, people would assume that we’d started a bakery because we love baking bread that much. The secret is that we started it so that we can have jobs we love. And while baking is a big part of that, what really keeps us motivated is owning it. We’re a worker cooperative: a worker-owned business. Everyone here is an owner or at least interested in worker ownership, and ideally on track to become a worker-owner. We love being on a team where everyone cares equally about the quality of the product and experience we’re creating (translation: there’s no one here who doesn’t care a LOT.) No one has to make the hard decisions alone. We value creativity, collaboration, and communication. And we’re motivated to improve and expand BreadHive so we can bring on new owners as new positions and opportunities are created; prove that worker-owned businesses can be a successful and competitive alternative to the traditional business model; and be a resource for other businesses that are interested in worker ownership.

But yes, we also love making and eating bread enough to do it all day every day… Talking about our #secretplans while loading baguettes into the oven is our idea of fun.

About this playlist:

The first equipment we installed in the bakery was a giant speaker set. We can’t work without music blasting. And while we could have represented our cool, esoteric side with this list of 10 songs, we decided on brutal honesty: these are the artists we turn to when the hour is growing late, we still need to crank out 300 pretzels, and we’d like to keep smiling. These songs have been there for us since startup days and have tons of memories tied to them. Taylor Swift is an honorable mention; if she hadn’t yanked her catalogue off Spotify, this playlist might have just been her album 1989.
